 | You'll find Nottingham just off the M1 motorway between Sheffield and Leicester in the East Midlands. It is a city famous for its lace manufacturing past and its association with a popular outlaw, but what has Nottingham got to offer these days?
Well Robin Hood is still a major attraction in the city whether he's drawing tourists to the Tales of Robin Hood Exhibition or enticing locals north of the city centre to Sherwood Forest Country Park. The Tales of Robin Hood is an interactive museum in the city centre an ideal option for a family visit while Sherwood Forest is a heritage site that attracts around half a million visitors each year to not only learn about Robin Hood but also just to walk around and enjoy the outdoors.
If you'd rather not venture out to Sherwood Forest to enjoy wonders of nature, why not take a tour of the town centre, a regular winner of floral competitions. Each year the city council makes a particular effort to make Nottingham look great as part of the Nottingham In Bloom initiative. So far this has resulted in regular wins in the various 'In Bloom' competitions that happen around Britain, and Nottingham has claimed honours in East Midlands In Bloom and Britain in Bloom.
A great looking city centre may be enough to put you in a good mood, but if shopping is all you need for a sunny disposition then Nottingham is a great place to unleash your credit card. Voted one of the country's top three retail centres, Nottingham attracts more than two million regular shoppers to city. At its heart is the Old Market Square, which is reported to be the biggest market square in the country. Alternatively for undercover shopping thrills there's the Victoria Centre, which opens seven days a week, including Bank Holidays, and offers a wide variety of stores amongst the 120 shops and stores it boasts.
Sport is another way to spend your leisure time in Nottingham as the city is home to more sports facilities for its size than any other city in Europe.
