 | If you look on a map for the town of Northampton you'll find it between Leicester and Oxford, Coventry and Bedford in the county of Northamptonshire.
Northampton is actually one of Britain's fastest growing towns but it is surrounded by a number of other towns and villages which all share the NN postcode including Kettering, Wellingborough, Brackley, Daventry, Rushden, Towcester, and Corby. From this part of the UK London is around and hour and a half away by car down the M1, while Birmingham is approximately an hour away depending on the traffic on the M1 and M6 motorways. However if you're taking the train then Northampton train stations is a short walk from the town centre and from here you can get the following services:
Silverlink - takes you to Milton Keynes Central, Leighton Buzzard, Hemel Hempstead and London Euston. Central Trains - take you to Rugby, Coventry, Birmingham International and Birmingham New Street. Virgin Trains - go to London Euston and Milton Keynes. Midland Mainline - takes you to Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham, Derby and Sheffield.
However if you're looking to stay in the Nottingham area then you'll find plenty of things to do. You could go shopping at the indoor and outdoor markets, get cultured at a local theatre production, trade in an evening in front of the small screen for a few hours of big screen magic or socialise in one of the local bars.
Alternatively you could make the most of the outdoors at one of the annual events such as the Hot Air Balloon Festival every August or St Crispin's Funfair each October. Outside these times there are plenty of parks where you can enjoy pitch & putt golf, bowls, tennis or just a peaceful picnic.
