 | Granted city status in 2002 as part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations, Newry is now said to be the fourth largest city in Northern Ireland.
The city sits on the border between County Armagh and County Down, and can be found about 40 miles from Northern Ireland's capital, Belfast.
Newry dates back to the 11th century when it was founded next to an existing Cistercian monastery, making it one of Northern Ireland's oldest towns.
The city plays host to a number of Ireland's most historical landmarks including the Catholic Cathedral of St. Patrick and St. Colman, St. Patrick's Church, which was Ireland's first Protestant church, and Newry Town Hall. |
