UK holiday destinations are benefiting enormously from the economic climate, strong Euro and the latest Met Office prediction it is going to be a hot and dry Summer, according to online local search specialist, Infoserve.
Data from Infoserve’s online directory, www.city-visitor.com, which attracts more than four million visitors each month, has revealed that searches for UK hotels, bed and breakfasts, campsites and simply ‘places to stay’ are 76% higher than the same period last year.
Specific holiday destinations have also enjoyed a dramatic increase. Cornwall searches are up 80%, Bournemouth and Blackpool up by 68% and, perhaps reflecting a new approach to family holidays, the search for ‘action holidays in the UK’ has increased by 73%.
The switch to UK destination holidays is further reinforced by the fall in UK internet searches for flights. According to internet traffic monitor, Hitwise, searches were down by 42.4% during the traditionally key post-Christmas week, compared to the previous year.
Commenting on the figures, CEO of Infoserve Steve Barnes believes the credit crunch and weather forecast are not the only factors behind the increases.
“The popularity of the internet to find local businesses and services is growing inexorably as more consumers discover how specific they can be with their search terms,” he said.
“For example if people are looking for windsurfing holidays in Cornwall or B&Bs in Blackpool, they can find all the information they need about the location, accommodation and prices, quickly and easily. They can then make an informed choice before making the booking.”
“The results from the searches are also becoming increasingly comprehensive as more companies appreciate the benefits of promoting their businesses online.”
