 | Famous for its harbour which has served as the start or finish point of record-breaking voyages such as those of Dame Ellen Macarthur, Falmouth is situated on the River Fal on the south coast of Cornwall.
The town dates back to 1613 when it was officially created by Sir John Killigrew.
Over the years many important international news stories have landed at Faalmouth, such as the news of Britain's victory in the Spanish Armada and Admiral Nelson's death.
The news was taken by stagecoach to London by the Falmouth Packet Service.
Falmouth has been, and still is, home to many famous faces including former athlete Sebastian Coe, who was MP for the area in the 1990s, comedians Dawn French and Lenny Henry, lyricist Tim Rice, artist Henry Scott Tuke, and playwright Miles Tredinnick. |
